Initialization is the entry of seed data which is used for referential purposes and as a starting point for users, as they undertake their day to day processes. It also requires some checking by implementers that the system data that usually comes bundled with the software, is appropriate to the client organisation circumstances.

The task of initializing CBS is not a particularly onerous or lengthy one. However, like all enterprise systems, poor quality data, can seriously affect the usability and effectiveness of the system.

In general, the initialization of CBS can take a few minutes to a few days. This depends on the quality and completeness of the data held by the client enterprise. Obviously, the capture and quality assurance process is progressive, as more and more functions of CBS are turned on.

One of the key features of the CBS architecture is the opportunity to initialize and use one piece of functionality at a time. This provides a clear development path for the organisation and a very progressive implementation instead of a large step-wise change project effort.
