Guide Posts for New Users

INTRODUCTION
When Users start using new systems, there is always a lot of explanation needed as they go through a process of discovery for a period. The bigger and more involved the system, the more time it takes and the more confusing things seem.

APPROACHING CBS AS A NEW USER
When you first come to use CBS it is important to get the right balance between understanding and practice. That means putting your hands of the keyboard as early in the process as possible, but without delving into the depths and making inappropriate changes or deletions to data. The Profiler in CBS can be set to allow users to see what is going on and them learn about the areas of the system that are relevant to their needs without letting them modify or delete data. It is also possible for experienced users to set things up so that their data can be viewed by other users but not run the risk of their records being inadvertently being modified or deleted.

MULTI-USER STANDARDS AND TEAMWORK
Whenever a system is truly multi-user, standards need to be laid down, understood and abided by all users. Multi-user systems allow a high degree of collaboration to occur, but teamwork and good communication between team members is a pre-requisite.

NEW USER LEARNING
The best way for a new user to learn how to use CBS is to have someone else who knows how things work, and who has already been using the system for a period to sit beside the new user and show them how they do it, using the data they have created and processed in the system itself.

New users find it best to make their own notes. It is recommended that the New User sets up a CATIP in the CORRIDOR™ for each set of notes the New User makes [while their "buddy" is demonstrating how to use each function of the system]. Any diagrams they have sketched out during those learning sessions can be attached [as scanned images] to the relevant CATIP for future reference.
